Over 300 Students Trained and Ready for the Job Market

Lira City, Uganda — In a significant step towards enhancing youth employability, over 300 students from Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery  have successfully completed soft skills training conducted by Brighter Monday Uganda, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation. The initiative is part of a broader effort to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and the practical, interpersonal skills demanded by today's job market.

The training focused on key soft skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership, emotional intelligence, problem-solving, adaptability, and time management—skills often overlooked in traditional classroom settings but highly valued by employers across sectors.

Brighter Monday Uganda, a leading online job portal and career development platform, delivered the training sessions in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works program. The goal of this program is to equip young Ugandans with the tools they need to find dignified and fulfilling employment opportunities.

Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery's Executive Director, Dr.Isaac Orec, commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of soft skills in complementing academic excellence. “We are preparing our students not just to graduate, but to thrive in a competitive world. Soft skills are what truly set apart candidates in today’s global job market,” he said.

The training sessions included interactive workshops, peer-to-peer activities, role-plays, and mock interviews, allowing students to build confidence and practice real-world scenarios. Students also received mentorship and career guidance from professionals affiliated with both Brighter Monday Uganda and the Mastercard Foundation.

Participants expressed enthusiasm about the training, noting that it had boosted their self-confidence and readiness for job interviews and workplace environments.

This initiative is part of an ongoing collaboration aimed at increasing youth employment rates in Uganda, with plans to expand the training to more institutions across the country.

With over 300 students now equipped with essential workplace skills, the future looks brighter for these young professionals as they take their first steps into the job market.
