Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery Granted Accreditation to Offer Diploma Programs in Nursing and Midwifery by Extension

Lira City, East Division, Uganda – March 23, 2025– Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery, located in Lira City, East Division, has received official accreditation from the Ministry of Education and Sports to begin offering Diploma in Nursing by Extension and Diploma in Midwifery by Extension. This landmark decision, announced on March 14, 2025, grants the institution the authority to expand its academic offerings and increase its student intake, marking a significant milestone in the school’s mission to train healthcare professionals in Uganda.


Dr. Isaac Orec, the Director of Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery, expressed his gratitude to the Government of Uganda, particularly the Ministry of Education and Sports, and the First Lady, Hon. Janet Museveni, for their unwavering support. He also thanked His Excellency, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for fostering a conducive environment for public-private partnerships in education.


“This accreditation is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, as well as the trust placed in us by the government. We are now authorized to admit 80 students for the new diploma programs in nursing and midwifery, in addition to expanding our certificate programs,” said Dr. Isaac.


The Ministry of Education and Sports has also approved an increase in the school’s total student population from 300 to 460, allowing an additional 160 students to enroll in certificate programs. This expansion will enable more aspiring nurses and midwives to access quality education and contribute to Uganda’s healthcare sector.



  Admissions Now Open


Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery has officially opened admissions for its new diploma and certificate programs. Prospective students are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to advance their education and careers in nursing and midwifery.


Dr. Isaac  Orec emphasized the school’s commitment to providing high-quality training and producing skilled healthcare professionals who will serve communities across Uganda. “We are excited to welcome new students and equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to make a difference in the healthcare sector,” he added.


The school’s leadership also acknowledged the support of local communities and stakeholders in achieving this milestone. With the new programs and increased capacity, Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery is poised to play a pivotal role in addressing the growing demand for qualified healthcare workers in Uganda.
